Ricardo Teles

Ricardo Teles is a freelance photographer, born in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil. He has been working in Sao Paulo since 1994 as a photojournalist, who contributed to the Estado de Sao Paulo Group, agency and newspapers, from 1996 to 2000.

Nowadays, as a freelance, his work has been published in several national and international magazines, such as Der Spiegel (Germany) and National Geographic Brazil.

Documented the activities of large companies and their environmental and social protection actions.

Teles is a member of the Focus agency, Germany, for which he has covered several stories in Latin America.

The photographer’s work has been exhibited in different capitals of Brazil, in Africa, Europe and the USA.

Awards

  •  Second Prize in the Artistic Merit category of the Sinchi Foundation (Netherlands) with an essay about the Xingu Indigenous National Park in Brazil. (2018)

  • Nominee to the Alfred Fried award for piece, prize and exhibition, with the essay The Waters of Xingu offered by UNESCO and the Austrian Parliament (2016).      

  • Third Prize in the POY LATAM (Picture of the Year - Latin America) in the professional category Foods of the World (2015).

  • First Prize at the Sony Awards offered by the WPO (World Photography Organization) in London, category Travel (2014).

  • First prize in the New Holland Award of Photojournalism (2013).

  • Honorable mention of Latin American Centre of Photography Award. Buenos Aires, Argentina (2013).

  • Honorable mentions in the Conrad Wessel Foundation Prize (Brazil) with the essays Enchants (2010) and The Road (2011).

  • First Prize of The Ayrton Senna Human Rights Prize of Journalism, received for the cover reportage The two Brazils for the Carta Capital magazine (2003).

  • Journalist Award CET, offered by European Tourism Commission in Brazil (2001).

  • The Martius Staden Award offered by Marcius Staden Foundation for the publication of the book Saga, owing to its cultural relevance and to the encouragement of the bicultural bond between Brazil and Germany (1999).

  • The VITAE scholarship with the project Quilombos, about rural black communities in Brazil (1998).
